Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
As you may already know, the COVID-19 Omicron variant is the dominant strain circulating in the US. Currently, in GA, our numbers have jumped up 50 percent. According to the Georgia Department of Health, as of the latest update, we have:
1,313,529 Confirmed Cases
26,120 Confirmed Deaths
91,881 Hospitalizations
14,242 ICU Admissions
23,0303 new cases in the last two weeks
Before you see family later this week, I would like to strongly suggest you take an in-home COVID test. One option is the Abbott Binax Now Test. The only downside to these in-home visits is that they are sometimes not sensitive enough or you are testing too early in your sickness. So a rule of thumb: when the test is positive …you are positive. If the test is negative, recheck it in 1-3 days. These tests do give a higher percentage of false-negatives than PCR tests.
If your test is positive, self-isolate for 10 days. Tell your close contacts (family members) so they can also get tested. Typically, you can be managed at home with Motrin/Tylenol, hydration, rest, and time. Common symptoms are fatigue, nasal congestion, nasal discharge, headache, body pain, and fevers. If you experience shortness of breath or difficulty breathing at any time, go DIRECTLY to your closest ER or call 911.
As always, I am here if you need me.
